With over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, Michael J. Basile, a Chartered Financial Analyst, serves as the Chief Investment Officer at Matune Basile Advisors. Mr. Basile holds a Bachelors degree from Ohio Northern University, and previously served as Senior Investment Officer at PNC Bank – Wealth Management.
I began my financial services career back in 1995 with an internship in the brokerage offices of A.G. Edwards in Lima, Ohio. After graduating from Ohio Northern University, I went on to work for A.G. Edwards in Public Finance and also had a brief stint in the Finance offices of the Cleveland Indians. I finally landed with Key Bank in Cleveland, Ohio. I started with the Trust Operations group and worked my way up through management.
My big break in the investment industry came when I was able to go to work on the trading desk for Victory Capital Management, at that time the Investment Division of Key Bank. I worked on the Securities Lending desk assisting in managing a portfolio with over $20 Billion in assets. This is where I learned of the CFA designation and began my pursuit of the Charter, which I would obtain in 2006.
After 10 years in Cleveland, it was time to move my family back home. With my wife Stacey being from the valley and with family close by, it was the right decision. I spent some time with two different wealth management firms. The first being First National Bank Investment Advisors and the second PNC Wealth Management. This gave me good perspective on how both a medium sized and a rather large sized institution went about the business of financial planning and investment management.
When I moved back to the valley, one of my first co-workers was a man named John Matune. John & I would strike up a good working relationship and friendship that would carry us both through FNB & PNC and ultimately lead to the creation of Matune Basile Advisors.
When it was time to open up a financial planning and investment management business, John and I were a great fit. We both had a desire to build a truly independent practice with the focus on our clients.
I currently reside in Hermitage, PA with my wife Stacey, my son Jason & my daughter Mia. When I spend time away from the markets and the rigors of investment research, I’m almost always at the pool as the assistant coach of the Shenango Valley YMCA Sea Lions. I also serve on the Investment Review Committee of The Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern Ohio and the F.H. Buhl Club Board.
